I am particularly fond of this heirloom design because it originated as a prize from a dog show, one that my parents won with their Doberman Pinscher in the early 1970s. I’ve always loved that blue-ribbon shaped brooch with its pewter center, and was fascinated with making a vintage coin-style casting of it. Sometimes these castings are wonderful, while others aren’t viable at all. The one was just perfect.
I work with metal clay, mostly in bronze. It’s an awe-inspiring process that begins as a lump of boring-looking clay. And after sculpting, casting, kiln-firing and metalsmithing, it emerges as a stunning precious metal piece.
Hypo-allergenic titanium posts make these classic coin-shapes comfortable and durable for everyday wear. Highest-quality lab-produced white gemstones remain stable, kiln-fired at 1700°F, and will not cloud or scratch easily, rating 8.5 on the Moh’s Hardness Scale. Stone is a white brilliant round classic-cut, embedded.
Earrings are coated to prevent skin discoloration and extreme tarnish. Clean with water and mild soap, pat dry immediately.
